At times like these, it is possible
to forget what our nation stands for as we feel the grief and anger over
the attack on our country, the loss of life, and the incredible suffering
of innocent civilians.
As a nation, we uphold the values of
freedom, liberty, justice, and democracy. We can respond to this attack in
a swift, certain, and emphatic manner without sacrificing those values.
Please remember, and encourage your friends
and neighbors to remember, that we must not repeat mistakes of the past
and we must not let prejudice and bloodlust cloud our judgment. Americans
of all faiths and nationalities condemn this attack.
As a nation we must:
- Unite and support our national effort to identify and
punish those responsible for this heinous attack on our nation and
values.
- Uphold our national dignity by continuing to respect
and uphold the rights of all peoples, regardless of race, religion, or
national origin.
- Continue our normal lives as a demonstration of our
refusal to bend in the face of terrorism.
If we fail to demonstrate our values and
resilience in the face of this attack, we will be allowing terror to win.
